So long, and thanks for all the fish
I've been searching for A VERY LONG TIME for the lyrics to this song.
If you haven't seen the film, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" yet, best to pop away now...
But I found on a blog a link to the official site which has the song, illustrated, with SUBTITLES! As you can hear, it's very hard to hear at points, which is why so many people have been searching for the lyrics.
Link to the official site with subtitles.
Page with a download of the full video clip.
And here's the full lyrics:
So long, and thanks for all the fishEnjoy!
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all, but oh dear
You may not share our intellect
Which might explain your disrespect
For all the natural wonders that grow around you
So long, so long, and thanks for all the fish
The world's about to be destroyed
There's no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve (around you)
Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your pregnant women
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long,
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long,
So long, so long, and thanks for all the fish
If I had just one last wish
I would like a tasty fish
If we could just change one thing
We would all have learnt to sing
Come one and all
Man and mammal
Side by side in life's great gene pool
...
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long,
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long,
So long, so long, and thanks for all the fish
"The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double-backwards somersault through a hoop whilst whistling the "Star Spangled Banner", but in fact the message was this: So long, and thanks for all the fish".
- Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Wow, so those are the lyrics. Good for you for finding them! Great catch. Great movie too.
Just in case you didn't see it :
I have posted a correction of the style for the TiddlyWiki (regarding the new Missing Tiddlers option).
